Good Afternoon!!
Does anyone out there sample their dialysis machines via the female dialyser connector?
I am sampling our machines by spraying the female dialyser connector with 70% Industrial Methylated Spirits and inserting a disinfected male dialyser connector to sample through.
This procedure is producing the ‘required’ result – but there is some (well a lot of discussion) about whether it is the ‘correct’ result.
I am cleaning the dialyser connector, and this is unfortunately not the case in the real world. Invariably the dialyser connectors are taken off the dialyser and placed back onto the dialysis machine without cleaning the front face.
Although the connector is cleaned up to the O’ring during disinfection, are my results giving ‘what the patient gets?’ I know there has been discussion on this forum on this issue in the past.
Does anyone have a sampling procedure/regime, sample in a similar way, sample via the septum in the back of the dialyser connector, or sample at all?
Are people getting good results from dialysis machines – and if so – what is your sampling technique?
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Annette
